2019 Toyota Sienna vs 2019 Honda Odyssey near Harford County, MD

Choosing a family shuttle to cart kids and cargo to and from school, sports, friend's houses, and home is an important decision to consider!  You want the best of the best so that your investment lasts for years to come, as well as having ample technology and comfort to keep your family happy through any length of ride.  Consider the 2019 Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey.  Both are comparable in size and price, but what about the features and power?  Thompson Auto is here to aid you in explaining the standards that come equipped in these two vehicles.

2019 Toyota Sienna Power & Handling

Every Toyota Sienna is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6, generating 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque.  This capable power is channeled through the Sienna's standard eight-speed automatic transmission, giving the minivan great pick up and cruising abilities.  There's definitely no feel of lagginess on the highway, particularly when you choose one of the select models that are equipped with all-wheel drive instead of the standard front-wheel drive.  This lends superior handling across otherwise difficult road conditions, keeping you and your family safe through any climate or weather.  Either drivetrains are rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, as well, benefitting the Sienna's great functionality whenever you need to bring larger gear along for the ride.

2019 Honda Odyssey Power & Handling

The Honda Odyssey also comes with a 3.5-liter V6, this powertrain generating a lesser 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque.  Most trims are equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission, although the last two Odysseys come instead with ten-speed automatic transmissions for greater torque array and driving dynamic.  Both provide you with smooth performances that can keep up fairly well with the Toyota, however the Odyssey only comes with front-wheel drive.  You'll be hard pressed to navigate successfully through colder climates in this minivan.  The nine-speed is also only rated to tow up to 3,000 pounds.  If you want to compare to the Sienna's towing power, you'll have to upgrade to the ten speed.

2019 Toyota Sienna Features & Design

It's all about comfort and functional space!  The three rows of the Toyota Sienna accommodates up to eight passengers, with choice of a maximum of seven should you opt for the two captain's chairs for the second-row instead.  Seats are plush with soft touch high quality easy-clean cloth or leather upholstery and contrast stitching.  Dash, door panels, console covers, and even vents are wrapped in luxurious feeling materials, raising the Sienna's refinement.  It features a wide dash design that features clearly labeled controls, a center-dash shift knob next to standard three-zone climate controls, and a built in seven-inch touch screen interface.  This connects automatically to Bluetooth, wireless smartphone integration, and even standard navigation!  The steering wheel also features push button hands free controls for audio, phone calls, and the also standard adaptive cruise control.  On the passenger side, there's a double-decker glovebox.  Other nice standards include five USB charging ports, three 12-volt outlets, twelve cupholders, backup camera, and the Split and Stow third row seat, folding the third row discreetly into the floor for a flat 117 cu.ft cargo space.  Removing the second-row seats will give you 150 cu.ft of cargo capacity.

2019 Honda Odyssey Features & Design

The Honda Odyssey's interior passenger volume is comparable to the Toyota, however its standard trunk space is lacking compared to what the Sienna offers.  The third row also folds down flat thanks to Honda's Magic Seats, but even this lends you a max of 92 cu.ft.  Only folding down all three grants you a greater space compared to the Sienna, totalling 150 cu.ft.  The Odyssey comes standardly equipped to accommodate seven passengers with optional eight passenger seating when you opt instead for the three-seater second-row bench.  Upholstery is comfortable in either fabric or mid-tier and up leather.  The second row, when you stick with two captain's chairs, interestingly slides along a track to center position when you require access to the third row.  The base Odyssey only offers a five-inch color touch screen, but higher models upgrade to an eight-inch model that's designed to float on the dash rather than be built into the console.  There's standard Bluetooth and MP3 jacks, but higher trims will only afford you wireless smartphone integration, HD Radio, and navigation.  There's also only maximum of three USB ports.  Unlike the clear cut shift knob and twist climate controls of the Sienna, the Odyssey has everything engineered to instead be push button, and--sorry passengers--there's just one zone manual climate control until you get to midtier trims.

It's evident that every minivan isn't made the same!  The 2019 Toyota Sienna offers superior handling when you most need it, and provides you with greater towing capability at a lower price point should you need large weight managements.  It's comfort is greater than that of the Odyssey thanks to bonus standards such as three-zone climate controls, adaptive cruise control, and built in navigation.  This minivan compliments the modern age, providing plenty of charging ports for you and your passengers.  Interested in more?  Below, you can check out other articles in our research center.  Thompson Toyota can best answer any question you may have remaining about the advantages of the Toyota Sienna.  If you're ready to move ahead and schedule a test drive, you can see what trims we currently have on our lot to try out!
