2020 Hyundai Sonata Announced

What can you tell me about the exterior and interior design of the 2020 Sonata?

The exterior of the 2020 Sonata showcases performance-led proportions that exhibit the sedan’s sporty nature. The Digital Pulse Cascading Grille is newly designed, spanning the front of the sedan and bookended by the new combination headlamps that include an innovative new lighting architecture. A new chrome strip runs from the wing mirror, around the side passenger windows, returning to the front of sedan running down the hood to underneath each headlight. This chrome strip has LED Daytime Running Lights with embedded hidden lighting lamps. Moving to the rear, the Sonata boasts a wide horizontal line, that is really an LED strip that connects each brake light, that extends across the center of the trunk. This high-tech feature is just a preview of the Sonata’s advanced safety features and the technology packed cabin.

Inside the 2020 Sonata, you will find a slim dashboard with a first-in-class 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This instrument cluster is customizable to suit different preferences and driving modes. The center of the dashboard boasts a larger 10.25-inch HD touchscreen, controlling all audio/video and navigation functions. This screen also offers a split-screen function so you can utilize two apps at the same time. There is also an exceptional sound system to be found in the Sonata. This is spawned from a new collaboration between Bose and Hyundai. This Bose sound system offers 12-speaker that deliver rich and crisp sounds. It also delivers Bose’s Centerpoint surround technology and Bose SurroundStage signal processing which puts every passenger at the center of the audio experience no matter where they are seated. An optional panoramic sunroof is available, amplifying the cabin’s light and airy feeling.

Can you tell us about the powertrain options?

There are two Smartstream gasoline powertrains available for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. The brand new Smartstream G2.5 GDI engine is outfitted with an optimized ITMS cooling system, cooled EGR, and high-efficiency combustion. This engine can generate an estimated 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The EPA has estimated that this engine can reach up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The second engine available for the 2020 Sonata is a Smartstream G1.6 T-GDI that creates 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This engine is estimated to reach 31 miles per gallon on the highway thanks to its world-first Continuously Variable Valve Duration system. Both engine options are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

What is the Digital Key?

Hyundai introduced the Hyundai Digital Key with the new Sonata. Via a dedicated smartphone app, the Digital Key can allow the smartphone to control vehicle systems remotely. Bluetooth Energy communication allows the user to lock and unlock, active the panic alarm and even start the engine! The Digital Key utilizes Near Field Communication, or NFC, technology for a high level of security. You can even leave your keys at home with the Hyundai Digital Key and secure sharing of keys with friends and family members. You can limit the vehicle functions, tailored to each shared used of the key for a period of time.
