Trim Levels of the 2018 Tacoma

Best-selling in the midsize pickup class, the Toyota Tacoma has been in a streak of success for the past decade thanks to its comfortable build, capable power, and technological advances that keep it ahead of the game, all at an affordable price to suit your personal and professional job needs.  Its six trims are available in thirty different configurations thanks to its two cabin builds (Access and Double), two beds (five-foot and six-foot), two powertrains, and two drivetrain options. Very few other vehicles are this customizable, lending to a wide array of functionality that can fit practically any budget.  Here, we review the standard features of each of the 2018 Tacoma's trim models so you can pick the one that fits you most. Then the only hard part is picking the cab and bed size.



SR

The base model starts at $25,400 MSRP, and is a basic package that doesn't skimp on the comfort features that makes driving and carrying out your business easy.  Standards of the cabin space include air conditioning, four-way seat adjustments with lumbar support, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen display with radio, AUX and USB inputs, Bluetooth, and voice recognition.  On the exterior, standard skid plates for the engine and front suspension is a nice touch for rough job sites. Two engines are available throughout the 2018 Tacoma line. First is the 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder that supplies a basic 159hp and 180 lb-ft of torque.  For those who need greater power, the 3.5-liter V6 provides 278hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Both these engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission; higher trims offer a six-speed manual transmission instead for greater gear shift control. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all models also offer a 4x4 configuration paired with an automatic limited-slip differential.  On the SR, these systems power the 16-inch steel wheels forward. Toyota is most famous for its all inclusive safety systems and packages. All models of the Tacoma come with Toyota Safety Sense driver assist features as well as the Star Safety System.


SR5

For $27,175, the SR5 gains further comfort features such as privacy glass, a 4.2-inch driver information display with trip and efficiency stats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with hands-free audio and Bluetooth button controls, remote keyless entry, and possible GPS and SiriusXM connectivity.  Safety enhancements include standard fog lights for better visibility in poor conditions and variable intermittent windshield wipers as opposed to the SR's two-speed limits.



TRD Sport

Along with greater specialized performance systems, the TRD Sport gains some tech savvy highlights that gadget lovers will appreciate.  The V6 becomes the standard engine to supply more power to the pickup, and the manual six-speed transmission becomes optional. A sport-tuned suspension enhances the handling and smoothness of the ride, and wheels are enhanced to 17-inch aluminum alloy.  Most unique, there's an all new Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging station that supplies a special power transmission pad by the cup holders of the center console. For your bigger tools, the bed is now equipped with a 120V AC power outlet. A Smart Key System is also standard, giving push button startup, and the rearview mirror gains auto day/night dimming.  Also enhanced, the multimedia display becomes a seven-inch high resolution screen with HD radio, navigation, predictive traffic, and doppler weather overlay. The Class-IV towing hitch receiver is another bonus that improves the TRD Sport's functionality. This package and supplies the pickup with ATF cooler (for the automatic transmission) or engine oil cooler (when the manual transmission is equipped), power steering cooler, 130-amp alternator, a 4- and 7-pin connector with converter, and Trailer-Sway Control.  All this comes at a starting MSRP of $32,095, and can tow the maximum 6,800-pound capacity and highest 1540-pound payload limit.


TRD Off-Road

Driving the 2018 Tacoma onward, the TRD Off-Road specializes its systems to go beyond the paved path of life.  16-inch machine contrasted alloy wheels are equipped with Kevlar reinforced all-terrain tires to power over any tough conditions you point the nose of this capable midsized truck towards.  Its terrain-conquering is bolstered by a Multi-terrain Drive Mode Select and Crawl Control, both designed to assist the vehicle's forward momentum at low gears and speeds. The Limited is luxury-minded, supplying quality materials inside and out to make this a classy upscale truck.  For $37,340, chrome coats the headlight and fog light bezels, grille, mirror housings, door handles, and bumpers.  The 18-inch polished alloy wheels ties the look altogether, creating a truly handsome looking pickup. The moonroof becomes a standard feature for all Limited models.  On the inside, the comfort of the cabin is enhanced with front dual-zone automatic climate control and durable leather-trimmed upholstery. Safety systems gain blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rear parking sonar alerts.  Also standard is the JBL stereo system.


TRD Pro

The TRD Pro combines the best of the best with a trim unique look for just $41,720 MSRP.  All bezels, grille, mirror housings, handles, bumpers, and the cat-back exhaust turn matte-black.  The TRD Pro calls back to the Toyota truck models of the past by using a "TOYOTA" grille decal. Looks further gain black badging, overfenders, and a hood scoop.  Aforementioned technological and comfort features are included into the TRD Pro's luxurious ride, with the difference of black leather tying together the exterior and interior style cues.  The TRD Pro also gains heated front seats and special embroidered shift knob and floor mats. The 16-inch black alloy wheels are equipped with all-terrain tires works with an off-road tuned suspension with 2.5-inch FOX Internal Bypass coilovers and rear remote reservoir shocks combining the luxury of the Limited with the capabilities of the TRD Off-Road.  A trim unique front skid plate is added on for extra protection of the underbody mechanics.
